I am thrilled and honoured to be a participating composer in the international PlanetWoman project. 10 composers from 10 countries have created 15 compositions, one on a text by Hildegard von Bingen and the rest on poems by the project creator and producer, the British-Hungarian poet and visual artist Zsuzsanna Ardó.
These compositions were completed in 2023 and are now being performed in different locations around the globe. At the time of writing, six premieres have already taken place and several more are planned.
I have contributed two pieces to this programme: Dawn Bends for a cappella choir SSAATTBB and Dawn Horse at Dusk for a cappella choir SATB. I’m delighted to write that both these pieces will be premiered in the fall of 2024; Dawn Bends will be sung by Victoria’s Vox Humana, directed by David Stratkauskas, at their Vox in the Stars concert at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory on September 13, 14 and 15, (all performances begin at 7:30 p.m.) while Dawn Horse at Dusk will be performed by the St Andrews University Chamber Choir, directed by Abi Collins, in St Andrews, Scotland, at their concert on November 23rd.
Once all pieces have been performed, a permanent website will host recordings of all the works.
